NEW YORK -- A difficult August could be turning better for the D-backs, who followed Monday's extra-inning win with a 7-4 victory over the Mets on Tuesday night at Citi Field.
The D-backs arrived in town having not won consecutive games since Aug. 2-4, but after J.D. Martinez hit a three-run home run off Tommy Milone in the first inning, they held on for a second straight win over a Mets team depleted by injuries and trades. The Mets scored three runs in the ninth, but closer Fernando Rodney recorded the final out for his 29th save.
"We're excited," starter Patrick Corbin said. "Everything's turning the corner."

Corbin's career-high 20 1/3-innings scoreless streak came to an end when Amed Rosario homered off him in the fifth, but the D-backs' left-hander allowed just one run over eight innings. It was the first win in four Citi Field starts for Corbin, who grew up a Yankees fan in Clay, N.Y., just north of Syracuse.

Milone started in place of Steven Matz, who became the Mets' sixth pitcher on the disabled list. Milone allowed six runs (five earned) on five hits over 4 2/3 innings, striking out five.

"My goal in this start was to keep the ball down, and I was able to do that, minus a couple of pitches," Milone said. "Good teams capitalize on those, and that's what they did."
The D-backs have won 10 of their last 11 games against the Mets, including all five this season. The Mets have lost eight of their last nine games, and are a season-high 16 games under .500.

J.D. goes 30 for 30: Martinez's first-inning home run off Milone was his 10th in 29 games with the D-backs. It gave him another distinction, too, as he has now homered against all 30 Major League teams. Martinez had only played against the Mets seven times before Tuesday. His homer traveled 412 feet, according to Statcast™.

Rosales makes a play, hits a homer: Corbin's only shaky inning was the third, when he got a visit from pitching coach Mike Butcher after allowing the first two batters to reach base and then starting 2-0 against Juan Lagares. Corbin recovered to get two straight ground balls to third base, where Adam Rosales got a forceout and made a nice play to start an inning-ending double play. Rosales, starting at third so Jake Lamb could get a day off, hit his first D-backs homer a half-inning later.

"He's just one of those hitters that likes to swing at everything," Milone said of Rosales' homer. "You get ahead like I did there, that second pitch there, you probably don't throw him a strike because he's looking for that there."

Mets: The Mets will look to reverse their fortunes against the D-backs with right-hander Chris Flexen (2-2, 6.55 ERA) on the mound for the 7:10 p.m. ET first pitch. Arizona has won 10 of its last 11 games over New York.
