Hill exits with groin strain, is day to day

OAKLAND -- A's left-hander Rich Hill left Sunday's 4-2 win over the Tigers with a mild groin strain, but he doesn't view it as a significant injury and is considered day to day.
Hill left the field accompanied by a trainer with one out in the seventh inning after striking out James McCann. He first felt the injury sometime around the fourth inning, and said it continued to build throughout the course of the game.
"It's a real mild groin strain," manager Bob Melvin said. "He wanted to stay in, but I didn't want to put him in a position where it could get worse."

Hill left with the A's leading, 3-2, after a conference at the mound with Melvin and team trainer Walt Horn. He reiterated several times following the game that the injury is "nothing of significance," and said he expects to be ready by his next start.
"It was bothering him enough to where I needed to take him out," Melvin said. "He didn't want to come out. Hopefully, that's a good sign."
Catcher Stephen Vogt said he noticed Hill "grimace," but he wasn't sure how much the injury affected him throughout the game. He wasn't surprised that Hill didn't want to depart, and said Hill would ultimately make a good decision.
"Of course he wanted to stay out there. They had to drag him off, which is the only way you can do it. ... Hopefully, he's back in five days," Vogt said.
Hill struck out nine in 6 1/3 innings while throwing 104 pitches, and earned his eighth win of the year. He entered the game with a 7-3 record and 2.18 ERA and has been Oakland's most consistent pitcher this season.
