Beltre tests right calf with pregame running

April 1st, 2017

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers are waiting to see if third baseman will be ready to play on Opening Day against the Indians on Monday.
Beltre, who has been bothered by tightness in his right calf since Monday, did some running prior to Friday night's 3-0 win over the Royals and the Rangers are waiting to see how he responds.
Beltre has just 12 spring at-bats with the Rangers because of his time playing with the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic.
"We continue to gather information and have conversations with Adrian and the medical staff," manager Jeff Banister said before Friday night's exhibition game against the Royals at Globe Life Park. "That's a fluid process. Let's get him through today first. We love the fact that he's got a number of at-bats throughout his career."
Banister said Beltre continues to improve. Joey Gallo started at third base on Friday as the Rangers used what could be their everyday lineup with the exception of Beltre.
