Pollock expected to miss game with sore arm

Lopez pitches two innings vs. West Virginia; Castillo might get more rest

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- D-backs manager Chip Hale said center fielder A.J. Pollock would likely be scratched from Tuesday's starting lineup against the University of Arizona with a sore right arm.
"Pollock has not hit BP the last three days," Hale said. "I don't think I'm going to play him [Tuesday]. He has a little bit of a sore arm. He has it every spring, just from swinging a lot and throwing. It's nothing major."
Hale did not provide any further details about the injury.

Lopez debut:Yoan Lopez started for the D-backs against the University of West Virginia on Monday and allowed one run on two hits over two innings. The right-hander hit a batter and fanned three.
"He did a nice job," Hale said. "The first inning he struggled a bit, but first time on the mound in Spring Training. Threw his offspeed pitches for strikes. The second inning I think he threw nine pitches. He got better, that's what it's all about."
Not overplaying Welington: Catcher Welington Castillo played in 80 games for the D-backs last year after coming over from the Mariners in a June trade.
It was hard for Hale to take Castillo's bat out of the lineup given his production -- 17 homers in 303 plate appearances. This year the D-backs will try to be more cautious with how much they play him.
"I don't want to put a number on it because we're going to really go on his body and how he feels, but it's important that we keep him rested and keep him at the top of his game both offensively and defensively," Hale said when asked how many games Castillo would play. "We probably pushed him a little hard at times because he was so hot with the bat and carrying us. So we have to be careful with that."
