The Angels today agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free agent outfielder Ben Revere (reh-VEER). In a corresponding move, INF Ji-Man Choi was designated for assignment.
Today's announcements were made by General Manager Billy Eppler.
"We are excited to make Ben a member of the Angels," said Eppler. "Ben's skill set on both sides of the ball is a welcome addition and adds a dynamic component to our roster." Revere, 28, joins the Halos after spending the 2016 campaign with the A.L. East Champion Washington Nationals. In 103 games (80 starts) with Washington, Revere batted .217 (76/350) with 44 runs, nine doubles, seven triples, two HRs, 24 RBI and 14 stolen bases (19 attempts).
For the seventh time in his seven professional full seasons, Revere swiped double-digit bags. Since 2011, Revere's 190 stolen bases are fourth-most in all of Major League Baseball. A native of Atlanta, GA, Revere has appeared in 748 career MLB games batting .285 (812/2487) with 363 runs, 75 doubles, 35 triples, six home runs and 178 RBI. His finest campaign came in 2014 with the Phillies leading the National League with 184 hits while posting a slash line of .306/.325/.361 and 49 stolen bases. Revere has a career on-base percentage of .320 with a single-season best of .343 in 2015 with Philadelphia and Toronto. In exactly 700 career outfield games, Revere boasts a .990 fielding percentage.
He has registered a perfect fielding percentage (1.000) in two full professional seasons with Minnesota in 2012 (282 chances) and in 2015 with Philadelphia and Toronto (300 chances). Originally selected in the first round (28th overall) by the Twins in the 2007 Amateur Draft, Revere made his MLB debut with Minnesota on Sept. 7, 2010.
