Bedrosian progresses to throwing from mound

ST. PETERSBURG -- Angels relief ace took a key step forward in his recovery from a groin strain on Monday, throwing off the mound for the first time since landing on the disabled list.
Manager Mike Scioscia said Tuesday that Bedrosian will now shift his rehab to the Angels' facility in Arizona, where he will throw a bullpen.
The 25-year-old right-hander has been sidelined since April 22, and his return has taken longer than expected. Before the injury, Bedrosian had established himself as the Halos' best reliever, posting 6 2/3 scoreless innings with three saves.
The Angels are inching closer to getting right-hander back, too. Street, who has been out all season with a lat strain, has been pitching in extended spring games in Arizona and should be ready to begin a Minor League rehab assignment soon. Street is eligible to come off the 60-day disabled list on June 1.
"I think this week will tell us a lot about where he is," Scioscia said. "His stuff looks like it's picking up. He's recovering well, so we'll see."
Though the Angels currently have Bedrosian, Street and on the disabled list, the bullpen has held its own in their absence, and entered Tuesday with a 4.10 ERA, which ranks 15th in the Majors.
Right-hander has been particularly effective in the closing role for the Halos, converting nine of 10 save opportunities and holding opponents to a .169 batting average.

Worth noting
• Left-hander , who was placed on the disabled list on April 29 with a right oblique strain, began a throwing program Monday. His initial prognosis for recovery was 10 to 12 weeks, so he still has a long way to go in his rehab.
"Skaggs' throwing program is still just in the infant stages," Scioscia said. "But he came out of it."
