Halos claim Ege, option lefty to Triple-A

August 12th, 2016

CLEVELAND -- The Angels added another left-hander off waivers on Friday, claiming former Miami southpaw Cody Ege and optioning him to Triple-A Salt Lake.
"I think he's got a good arm. I think he's a project," manager Mike Scioscia said. "He's an experiment, but he's got a good arm."
Ege is the second left-hander this week that the team has claimed after former Phillies left-hander joined the club on Thursday. To make room, the Halos transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
Ege made five appearances for the Marlins this season, allowing four runs on eight hits in three innings before being optioned to Triple-A New Orleans in early May.
Ege posted a 4.50 ERA with 35 strikeouts and 27 walks across 44 innings in his 36 outings in Triple-A this season. The Marlins designated Ege for assignment on Tuesday.
Worth noting
will also be in Salt Lake, where the first baseman began his rehab assignment Friday night. Scioscia said that he will need at least five days there before returning to the Angels.
Cron was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 9 with a fractured right hand. Prior to that, Cron hit .278 with 50 RBIs and 11 home runs in 77 games this season for Los Angeles.
• Angels right-hander will start for Salt Lake City on Monday. The Angels designated him for assignment last Saturday, and after he cleared waivers, Lincecum was optioned on Tuesday.
Lincecum went 2-6 with a 9.16 ERA in nine starts for the Halos, recording 32 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings of work. Still, Scioscia has faith the 32-year-old hurler will figure it out at some point down the road.
"It's easy to define Tim's problems right now," Scioscia said. "Finding the solution has proved to be more difficult. But he's going to have a chance to go down there and get a feel for what he needs to do and where he needs to be to regain the command to be successful. We are very optimistic, when he finds his command, that he can be a very successful Major League pitcher."
