Heartwarming souvenir swap by fans in Anaheim

June 22nd, 2022

Baseball has an ability to bring people together in a way that no other sport does. Don’t believe us? Just look at what happened in Anaheim last night.

In the bottom of the second inning, Brandon Marsh hit a lazy pop fly to Royals right fielder MJ Melendez for the third out of the inning. After securing the catch, Melendez tossed the ball into the stands -- a move that occurs countless times on a nightly basis.

The fan who caught Melendez’s toss displayed the typical jubilation associated with getting a ball at an MLB game, as he flexed and yelled in celebration. But after he went on his quasi-victory lap, he tossed the ball to a young fan in the front row. From there, he sat down, assuming he’d be going home empty-handed.

He was wrong.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Jared Walsh hit a towering home run to right field that was caught by, you guessed it, the young fan’s dad. After the young fan celebrated, he returned the favor, tossing his second ball back to the fan who gave him his ball earlier to ensure that everyone involved got a ball.

That’s what baseball’s all about.
