ANAHEIM -- Angels right-handed pitcher Matt Shoemaker exited Wednesday night's 7-5 win over the Yankees with tightness in the extensor muscle of his right forearm.

"After the last start in Houston, I kind of felt it a little bit, but it went away come yesterday," said Shoemaker while sporting a wrap over his right forearm after the game. "I knew I was good to go, but third, fourth inning, it started kind of tightening up again."

Shoemaker pitched three-plus innings, allowing four runs on six hits -- including a three-run home run -- and a walk, while striking out two batters. He threw 58 total pitches, registering 39 strikes.

The 30-year-old said he's not sure if he will need an MRI, but he's "not really concerned about it at all."

"I know we're going to see the next couple of days how it feels, how it reacts, which hopefully should be fine," he added.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Shoemaker's arm was weak and sore, and that the club took him out as a precaution.

"Any time a pitcher leaves with any injury, whether it's perceived to be very mild or more serious, you're concerned," Scioscia said. "But I think Shoe has had bouts with this in the past. It's something he's gotten over, so we're going to take it one step at a time and make sure he's healthy first and then move forward from there."
