Shoemaker's 13-K win earns AL Player of Week honors

Right-handed pitcher Matt Shoemaker became the first Angels player this season to win American League Player of the Week honors, which was announced on Monday.
Shoemaker, 29, fired his first career shutout in a 1-0 win over the White Sox on Saturday. He also tallied a career-high 13 strikeouts and didn't walk a batter in the dominant outing.

"It was an exceptional effort, especially getting a little tired at the end," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said following his pitcher's career performance.
