A's unsure of Reddick's return date

Outfielder needs another rehab start; pitcher Manaea remains on target

ANAHEIM -- The A's aren't sure if Josh Reddick will be ready to be activated from the disabled list before Monday's game against the Giants, which was the club's original timetable to bring back the outfielder from the 15-day DL.
Reddick is 1-for-16 with six strikeouts in four Minor League rehab games with Triple-A Nashville. He will serve as the designated hitter for the Sounds on Sunday night instead of flying back to the Bay Area, as was originally planned.
"I'm not sure," A's manager Bob Melvin said on Sunday. "He's going to play today, which we didn't have him scheduled to play today. He just doesn't feel great at the plate. Physically, he's fine. So this was a timetable we put together in a perfect world, but if he doesn't feel good at the plate, maybe another day or two."
Reddick has been on the DL since May 20, the result of a left thumb fracture. It's not clear if he would be able to get to AT&T Park in time for Monday's Interleague game against the Giants, even if he feels ready following Sunday's rehab game.
"We're just going to play it day to day," Melvin said. "Like I said, today was not scheduled for him, but he wants to get at-bats."
The A's have a much more upbeat outlook on left-hander Sean Manaea (forearm). He's likely to be activated from the DL to start Wednesday against the Giants at the Coliseum.
Manaea made 64 pitches over 3 2/3 innings in a rehab start on Friday with Class A Advanced Stockton. The rookie has been on the DL since June 14 and he's eligible to be activated Wednesday.
"I feel like he's going to pitch on that day, I don't know what would suggest that he wouldn't," Melvin said. "He'll throw another bullpen [on Sunday]. But in my mind, I have him scheduled pitching Wednesday."
