Astros rally, stun Yanks with walk-off throw

HOUSTON -- With an #ASGWorthy relay throw by , the Astros held on for a 7-6 comeback victory over the Yankees at Minute Maid Park on Saturday, overcoming Didi Gregorius' first career grand slam and a strong debut by touted rookie .

Yuli Gurriel delivered a two-run double for the deciding hit as and faltered in Houston's four-run eighth inning. Eight Astros batted, with igniting the rally with a walk and two stolen bases. Evan Gattis contributed a mammoth solo homer -- the first off Betances this season -- and and each drew walks, setting the table for Gurriel's go-ahead knock.

"It's a huge victory for us," said Gurriel, who also hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning. "Especially against the Yankees, who we know is a great team. It's always special when you beat the Yankees."

Correa also homered for the Astros, who improved to 10-6 in one-run games.
"We put quality at-bats together," Correa said. "And the results show."

Saturday's win marked the Astros' 24th comeback victory of 2017.

Dealin' a comeback: For the second consecutive outing, Betances struggled with his command, opening the door for Houston's rally. Altuve worked a one-out walk, then stole second and third before Gattis launched a 98.6-mph fastball over the left-field wall. After two more walks and a key Chris Carter error, Gurriel greeted Chapman by delivering the big hit down the left-field line.
"Credit guys like Gattis for starting off that inning well for us," Reddick said. "And Altuve for stealing bases and Correa for not trying to do too much and getting him in. We're just trying to manufacture runs." More >

Milestone day for Yankees
Gregorius slugged his grand slam off Will Harris as part of a five-run rally in the sixth inning that started with Frazier's first career hit, a double. The Yankees' No. 2 prospect as rated by MLBPipeline.com, Frazier hit a solo home run off in the seventh that put New York up, 6-3, at the time.

"It's probably the best taste of baseball I've ever had," Frazier said. "The Astros played a good game, we played a good game. It's disappointing to lose, but we've got tomorrow. I'm just glad I got to be a part of this game."
