Gattis continues to be Houston's Mr. Clutch

Slugger hits 9th-inning homer to send game to extras

September 13th, 2016

HOUSTON -- Though he wasn't able to drive in the winning run in Houston's 4-3 loss to the Rangers in 12 innings Monday night at Minute Maid Park, did come up clutch once again, launching a ninth-inning solo shot to send the game into extra innings.
After a quartet of double plays kept the game within reach, Gattis tagged Rangers closer 's 95 mph fastball with a huge blast over the train tracks to tie the game at 3-3 in the ninth inning. His homer went a projected 386 feet with an exit velocity of 107 mph, according to Statcast™.
"Every time he swings the bat," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said, "he's got a chance to leave the yard."

Gattis' home run was his 26th of the season, the 11th of his career in the ninth inning or later and the seventh to tie the game or take the lead. He's now two dingers away from surpassing his career-high in home runs (27), which he set last season.
The 30-year-old almost came up with another big hit in the bottom of the 11th that would've had a chance to win the game. With Yulieski Gurriel on first, Gattis flied out to the warning track to right-center field.
"[Ian] Desmond did a good job running the ball down," Hinch said. "I don't know if Gurriel scores but he certainly gets to third."
