ANAHEIM -- Astros second baseman Jose Altuve extended his career-long on-base streak to 30 consecutive games by going 2-for-5 in Monday's 4-2 win over the Angels at Angel Stadium. He's the first Astros player to reach in 30 consecutive games since Willy Taveras a decade ago.
The streak, which is the longest of its kind in the Majors, is the longest by an Astros player since the speedy Taveras reached in 31 consecutive games from July 27-Aug. 29, 2006, which included his club-record 30-game hitting streak.

"It's crazy," Altuve said. "I hope I can do 30 more. Anything I can do to help the team and keep them in the games, I'm going to do it."

Altuve has hit safely now in 29 of his last 30 games, including eight in a row. Entering Monday, he was hitting .405 with a .467 on-base percentage during the streak, which began May 26 against the Orioles. He only went hitless on June 17 against the Reds, when he went 0-for-3 with three walks.
Altuve entered Monday ranking second among all Major League position players in WAR (4.3), just behind the Angels' Mike Trout (4.4). He leads the AL in batting average (.347) and leads AL second basemen in on-base percentage (.426), slugging (.567), OPS (.993), hits (100), doubles (23), walks (38) and steals (18).
He leads American League second basemen with 2,186,949 votes in the latest All-Star Game balloting.
