Lowrie has successful left foot surgery

A's second baseman should resume baseball activity at Spring Training

September 1st, 2016

A's second baseman underwent successful surgery on his left foot Wednesday, the club announced.
The surgery -- a left big toe repair with a left foot bunionectomy -- was performed by Dr. Kevin Varner at Houston Methodist Hospital. Lowrie is scheduled to begin physical therapy in two weeks, and he is on track to resume baseball activity by the start of Spring Training.
Lowrie, 32, landed on the disabled list Aug. 5, after dealing with foot discomfort for more than a month. He's under contract for one more season with the A's, who reacquired him in a trade from the Astros during the offseason.
Lowrie's performance at the plate dipped significantly as he dealt with this issue; he hit just .177 over his final 15 games, dropping his season average to .263. He totaled two home runs and 27 RBIs through 87 games this year, also missing time with a DL stint in May for a right shin contusion.
