Donaldson making case on AL All-Star ballot

June 6th, 2017

OAKLAND -- Josh Donaldson is holding steady at fourth place among American League third basemen on the Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot for the upcoming All-Star Game in Miami, but he's going to need a lot of help to catch Minnesota's .
Donaldson remained in the fourth spot after Major League Baseball released its second ballot update on Tuesday afternoon. The three-time All-Star has 322,287 votes and trails Sano (638,952), the Indians' (541,040) and the O's Manny Machado (520,116) at the hot corner.
Outfielder was the only other Toronto player who had a ranked position in the second update. Bautista is 11th with 330,904 votes, as New York's (1,251,543), Los Angeles' (1,155,356) and Cleveland's (554,620) round out the top three.

First baseman and second baseman were two notable omissions from the list. Smoak entered play on Tuesday leading all AL first basemen with a .924 OPS after hitting home run No. 15 in Monday's loss to Oakland. Travis' case was hurt by a slow start and was dealt another blow on Tuesday when he was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right knee bone bruise. But he was one of the league's best hitters in May.
