SAN FRANCISCO -- The Blue Jays optioned right-hander Ryan Tepera to Triple-A Buffalo following Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Giants in 13 innings.
Tepera loaded the bases in the 13th and then issued a walk-off walk in the loss. His most recent struggles likely didn't play a factor in his demotion as Tepera was expected to be sent down with the imminent return of Brett Cecil.
Toronto has yet to officially announce a corresponding roster move but the expectation is that Cecil will be activated from the paternity list prior to Friday night's game against the Rangers. Cecil missed the three-game series in San Francisco to attend the birth of his daughter Braelynn.
Cecil is 0-5 with a 5.59 ERA in 15 appearances this season. Tepera has allowed three earned runs in 2 1/3 innings for the Blue Jays.
