Donaldson, Bautista in running for All-Star spots

May 31st, 2016

TORONTO -- Josh Donaldson received more All-Star votes than anyone else in baseball last year, but he's going to need a little help to get back to that same level in 2016.
Donaldson was ranked third in fan balloting at third base when the first update was released by Major League Baseball on Tuesday afternoon. He received 450,585 votes to sit behind the O's Manny Machado (630,028) and the Royals' Mike Moustakas (566,278).

Jose Bautista also found himself within striking distance for a starting spot after he finished fifth in the first update for American League outfielders. Bautista received 551,812 votes and is behind the Angels' Mike Trout, the Royals' Lorenzo Cain, the O's Mark Trumbo and the Red Sox's Jackie Bradley Jr.
There were several other notable inclusions for the Blue Jays in the first ballot update. Edwin Encarnacion was third at designated hitter behind Boston's David Ortiz and Kansas City's Kendrys Morales. Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki also ranked third, while catcher Russell Martin was fourth.
Kevin Pillar (12th) and Michael Saunders (15th) also had ranked spots at the time of the ballot update. Last year, Toronto sent Donaldson, Bautista and Martin to the All-Star Game in Cincinnati.
