Guyer pounces on Liriano with 1st-inning slam
DETROIT -- One of the keys for the Indians' offense is having Brandon Guyer serve as a weapon against left-handed pitching. The outfielder wasted no time in doing precisely that against the Tigers on Tuesday night.
In the first inning, Guyer sent a first-pitch sinker from Detroit left-hander Francisco Liriano out to left field for a grand slam, the first of the outfielder's career. The blast gave Cleveland a quick lead, before the Tigers surged back with a five-run seventh inning for a 9-8 victory, as the Indians dropped a second straight game in this three-game set between American League Central rivals.

Liriano labored out of the gates, allowing a leadoff single to Rajai Davis before issuing walks to Michael Brantley and Francisco Lindor. The lefty was on the cusp of escaping any harm in the inning when he struck out Tribe catcher Yan Gomes for the frame's second out. That set the stage or Guyer, who ambushed the first pitch for his third homer of the season.
