Diving Nimmo goes all out to rob Machado

May 8th, 2019

Mets center fielder Brandon Nimmo had to cover a lot of ground to rob Padres star Manny Machado in the first inning of the Mets' 3-2 loss on Wednesday -- and that's exactly what he did.

With two outs in the frame, Machado hit a low liner to right-center off Mets starter Wilmer Font. Nimmo -- shaded a bit to left-center -- bolted to his left and snagged it just before it hit the ground.

With a 50 percent catch probablity, Nimmo's snag was ruled a 4-star play. Nimmo covered 74 feet in 4.4 seconds, giving him a 28.8 ft/sec sprint speed. For perspective, 27 is the MLB average, while 30+ is considered elite.
