Matt Arnold has worked in several organizations since his days as a student at UC Santa Barbara, making stops with the Dodgers, Rangers, Reds and Rays before becoming the vice president/assistant general manager of the Brewers in October 2015.

During his stint in Cincinnati as the Reds' assistant director of pro scouting, Arnold was impressed by his third baseman's passion for the game. So when Aaron Boone was named manager of the Yankees this past winter, he wasn't surprised.

"He was very impressive then," Arnold said. "I remember him spending a lot of time in our video room and asking a lot of really good questions. Inquisitive guys like that who have good presence and are intelligent, those guys are going to do really well in the game."

With a vast scouting background and an interest in everything ranging from biomechanics to financial planning, Arnold has been referred to as the Ben Zobrist of front offices. MLB.com's Mark Feinsand sat down with Arnold to talk about his career, the analytics vs. scouting debate, his memories of Tampa Bay's famous Game 162 and much more.

On Executive Access, Feinsand provides a unique look at the people building Major League teams by engaging in candid interviews with front-office personnel from around MLB. Each week, you'll find out how they broke into the game, why they do what they do and how they envision the future of baseball. Look out for new episodes on Tuesdays.
