Pina, Shaw day to day with minor injuries

MILWAUKEE -- A 10-2 loss to the Cardinals was made more painful for the Brewers by the early exits of catcher and third baseman , each of whom were deemed day to day with minor injuries.

Shaw left as a precaution in the sixth inning because of soreness in his bruised and battered right foot. Two innings earlier, Pina tweaked his right hip lunging for a pitch in the dirt and was replaced by a pinch-hitter.

"When I blocked the ball, I felt something pinch me in the hip flexor. It was kind of bad," said Pina, who was seen wincing on the play. "So after that, when I try to squat, that bothered me a little bit."

He hoped to be back in action as early as Wednesday, but with a day game and right-hander on the mound for the Cardinals, the Brewers may have planned to start lefty-swinging from the start.

Shaw, meanwhile, began to experience soreness in his right foot as the night progressed and left as a precaution, manager Craig Counsell said. Shaw has played much of August with black-and-blue marks dotting his right leg and foot from a series of foul tips, most recently last Wednesday night in San Francisco.
