MINNEAPOLIS -- It's become a familiar script. Brian Dozier hits yet another homer, but it ends in a frustrating loss.
It happened again on Tuesday night, as a day after becoming the sixth Twins player to hit three homers in a game, Dozier quickly extended his home run streak to five straight games to match a club record with a leadoff homer in a 10-3 loss to the Royals, who scored seven runs in the ninth.
Dozier crushed a 2-0 fastball from right-hander Dillon Gee to left field for his 39th blast, and his record 11th against the Royals. The solo shot had an exit velocity of 103 mph and traveled an estimated 390 feet, according to Statcast™. Dozier joined Harmon Killebrew, who accomplished the feat three times, and Marty Cordova as the only Twins to homer in five consecutive games. Dozier has seven long balls over that span.

"It's kind of like a video game," manager Paul Molitor said. "He's just impressive to watch. They tried to go with offspeed for the first two pitches and then threw a fastball away, but it was just enough where he was able to do what he does. So kudos to him. The run continues. But I'm sure it's frustrating because it's tough to let games slip away like that."
It gave Dozier 37 homers as a second baseman this year, as two came as the designated hitter. The American League record is 39 by Alfonso Soriano in 2002, while the Major League mark is 42 by Davey Johnson (1973) and Rogers Hornsby (1922).
It was also Dozier's 18th career leadoff blast, which is two shy of Jacque Jones' franchise record. He also became the first Twins player to hit back-to-back leadoff homers since Jones in 2002.
Dozier leads the Majors with 22 homers over his last 36 games, which is the most over a 36-game span since Shawn Green had 22 in 36 games with the Dodgers in 2002.
"I know that when you get into a groove hitting, and it just so happens to be home runs and extra-base hits for me right now, the feeling you have is pretty remarkable," Dozier said. "Whenever you can get into a groove hitting, no matter it is, it's pretty cool."
Dozier, who ranks second in the Majors to Mark Trumbo's 41 homers, also has 76 extra-base hits, which is tied for the second-most in Twins history behind Tony Oliva's 84 in 1964. Dozier's 11 jacks against the Royals are the most by a player against one team since Alex Rodriguez had 11 against the Angels in 2003.
Dozier's incredible run has left his teammates in awe, and right-hander Ervin Santana said they're trying their best not to jinx it.
"He's on a roll right now -- we're trying not to talk too much about it," Santana said. "Just let it roll."
