The Dodgers and Twins have discussed a potential trade involving second baseman Brian Dozier, a source has confirmed to MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi.

The Dodgers are reportedly a front-runner to acquire Orioles star shortstop Manny Machado, but according to Yahoo! Sports, the club has widened its pursuit of a position player to include others such as Dozier, Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett and Mets middle infielder Asdrubal Cabrera. Dozier and Cabrera will be free agents at the end of the season. Gennett is still under club control next year.

Trade Talk: The latest news and rumors

Dozier, 31, has struggled this season, entering play Monday hitting .222/.305/.402 with 13 home runs. But from 2014-17, he averaged 32 homers per season for Minnesota. And with the Dodgers missing shortstop Corey Seager for the season due to Tommy John surgery, while also getting a .648 OPS from their second basemen, the club could use an infield upgrade.

Gennett, meanwhile, is having the best season of his career, slashing .322/.366/.509 with 14 home runs for Cincinnati. Cabrera is also having a strong season for New York, hitting .283/.330/.491 with 16 homers.
