MIAMI -- Giovany Gonzalez received some stellar glovework to keep his no-hit bid intact in Monday's 1-0 victory over the Marlins at Marlins Park.
Though Dee Gordon's leadoff single in the ninth ended the chance at a historic night, Wilmer Difo provided Gonzalez with a highlight catch to keep his starter rolling.
For the first out in the sixth, Difo made a diving snag to his right on a Miguel Rojas knuckling liner. The ball was hit at a 97.5-mph exit velocity and had a 76-percent hit probability, according to Statcast™.
"Difo made a diving play," Gonzalez said. "Just all around, guys in the infield were making great plays."
Rojas actually thought he had broken up the no-hitter on the swing.
"Absolutely," Rojas said. "I hit the ball well."

But the first real web gem behind Gonzalez came in the second inning, when Brian Goodwin made a sliding grab for the final out. The center fielder charged in on a Mike Aviles bloop to shallow center, sliding feet first and snaring the ball just before it hit the ground.
According to Statcast™, Aviles' ball had a 29-percent hit probability.
And with one out in the eighth, in the same situation Max Scherzer lost a no-hitter at Marlins Park on June 21, Aviles lined out to Bryce Harper in right -- but not without some drama.
Harper nearly lost track of the ball and ended up making the catch while falling to the ground.
"You could tell Bryce lost that ball in the lights," Nationals manager Dusty Baker said. "And you certainly wouldn't want it to end that way. But that was a good night, a great night for him and a good night for us."
