Chance Adams is opening eyes in his first full professional campaign.
The Yankees' No. 19 prospect was at his best Saturday as he fired six no-hit innings for Double-A Trenton in a 5-0 shutout of Richmond. He fanned six hitters in the outing and issued one walk, with 58 of his 78 pitches going for strikes.
With the performance, Adams has not allowed a hit in his last 10 innings for the Thunder.
Adams permitted a two-out walk in the in the bottom of the first before retiring the final 16 hitters he faced en route to facing one over the minimum. He recorded five of his strikeouts in the first three frames, fanning a pair both in the first and third innings, and tallied his final strikeout in the fifth. In addition to missing bats, the 21-year-old right-hander also generated six ground-ball outs.
Selected by the Yankees in the fifth round of the 2015 Draft out of Dallas Baptist, Adams is now 4-0 in five starts since being promoted to Double-A Trenton, and he's allowed no more than one earned run on four occasions.
Before moving up to the Eastern League, Adams went 5-0 over 12 starts for Class A Advanced Tampa, with a 2.65 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 57 2/3 innings. He has still yet to lose a game this year, going 9-0 with a 2.62 ERA in 17 starts between both levels. Meanwhile, he's posted a 98-25 strikeout-to-walk ratio and held opposing hitters to a .178 average in that span.
Trenton's bid for a combined no-hitter came to an end in the seventh inning, when Christian Arroyo connected on a leadoff double to right field. The Thunder ultimately would allow three hits in the game.
