PHOENIX -- The D-backs placed catcher Chris Iannetta on the 7-day concussion disabled list (retroactive to Saturday) and recalled right-hander Silvino Bracho from Triple-A Reno on Sunday.
Iannetta was hit in the face by a pitch from Pirates right-hander Johnny Barbato in the seventh inning Friday night and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was treated until just after 1 a.m. MST.
"I don't remember a lot of it," Iannetta said when he addressed the media for the first time since the incident at his locker on Sunday. "The first thing I really remember is getting hit in the face."
A CT scan was negative, and Iannetta was placed in the concussion protocol, but did not show any signs of having one.
Iannetta exhibited a split and swollen lip and said several of his teeth had been chipped by the errant pitch. The teeth have already been bonded, but there's more dental work ahead.
Iannetta also said there was a slight fracture in his nose that came up in the X-rays, but he might have suffered that injury when he was hit in the face as a 13-year-old.
"They told me those kinds of things never go away," he said.
When Giants catcher Buster Posey was hit in the head by a Taijuan Walker pitch in the first inning of the home opener last month, the Giants exercised caution and placed him right on the 7-day list despite no immediate symptoms. The D-backs exhibited the same caution on Sunday.
