Outfielders Margot, Torres extend hitting streaks

Single-A right-handed starters J.C. Cosme and Chris Huffman each worked six shutout innings Tuesday night while outfielders Manuel Margot and Nick Torres extended their hitting streaks in the Padres farm system.
Meanwhile, center fielder Michael Gettys was named an Eastern Division starter for the low Single-A Midwest League All-Star Game on June 21. Gettys will be joined by four Fort Wayne teammates in the All-Star Game - catcher Austin Allen and right-handed pitchers Cosme, Jake Nix and Enyel De Los Santos.
Margot was 3-for-5 with a double and a triple to stretch his hitting streak to 10 straight games and raise his batting average to .313, although Triple-A El Paso suffered a 7-1 loss at Fresno to snap an eight-game winning streak. Shortstop Nick Noonan, a product of Francis Parker High, had his 13-game hitting streak snapped in the loss.
Torres (.310) was 2-for-4 with a double, a RBI and a walk to extend his hitting streak to nine straight games, although Double-A San Antonio suffered a 3-2 loss to Frisco.
Cosme and two relievers combined for a three-hit shutout as Fort Wayne scored a 1-0 win at Bowling Green to improve to 32-26.
Cosme, 20, allowed a hit and a walk with four strikeouts as he improved to 6-2 and lowered his earned run average to 2.60. Left-hander Nathan Foriest (0.00 ERA) allowed a hit and a walk with three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. Right-hander Gerardo Reyes (2.20) allowed a hit and a walk in 1 2/3 innings to earn his third save.
Left-fielder Kodie Tidwell (.238) doubled in four at-bats and scored the TinCaps' decisive run on a sacrifice fly by Allen (.314).
Gettys, 20, the Padres second-round pick in the 2014 draft, is hitting .295 for Fort Wayne. De Los Santos is 3-2 with a 2.91 ERA. Nix is 0-2 with a 3.05 ERA.
Huffman (6-1, 2.10 ERA) allowed two hits and two walks with five strikeouts in his six shutout innings as high Single-A Lake Elsinore (28-31) defeated High Desert 9-1 at Lake Elsinore.
Right-hander Phil Maton allowed a hit with two strikeouts in a scoreless seventh and left-hander Taylor Cox (5.82 ERA) worked a perfect eighth. Left-hander Trevor Seidenberger (6.91) gave up a solo homer in the ninth to end the shutout bid.
Second baseman Luis Urias, who turned 19 on June 3, was 3-for-5 with a double, a RBI and a run scored to raise his batting average to .317 for the Storm.
Left fielder Luis Tejada (.221) was 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Right fielder Franmil Reyes (.232) was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two walks a day after his nine-game hitting streak ended. Shortstop Javier Guerra (.204) had a double in three at-bats with a walk, a RBI and a run scored.
There was more upward movement in the Padres' system Tuesday. Right-handed relievers Maton and Trey Wingenter advanced from Fort Wayne to Lake Elsinore. Right-hander Corey Kimber and left-hander Elvin Liriano were promoted from extended spring training to Fort Wayne.

TRIPLE-A EL PASO (35-23) - FRESNO 7, Chihuahuas 1: DH Ryan Schimpf (.347) was 1-for-2 with two walks. Starting LHP Frank Garces (1-1, 3.74 ERA) allowed five runs on seven hits and six walks with two strikeouts in four innings. RHP Leonel Campos (4.76) allowed a hit with a strikeout in an inning. LHP Keith Hessler (4.00) allowed a run on a hit in an inning. RHP Eric Yardley (1.93) allowed a run on two hits and a walk in two innings.
DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (17-38) - Frisco 3, MISSIONS 2: C Diego Goris (.244) was 1-for-4 with a RBI. Starting RHP Bryce Morrow (5.94 ERA) allowed two runs on three hits and five walks with a strikeout over six innings. RHP Tayron Guerrero (0-1, 4.50) allowed a run on a hit and a walk with four strikeouts in two innings to suffer the loss. RHP Yimmi Brasoban struck out the side in the ninth.
DSL Padres (1-1) - The scheduled game with the Blue Jays was rained out.
