SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw pitched five scoreless innings and Scott Van Slyke smacked a solo homer in a 6-4 Cactus League victory over the Rockies on Sunday afternoon at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick.
Kershaw held the Rockies to two hits and struck out three while breezing through the five innings in 61 pitches.
"Clayton was up a little bit in the first inning, but he settled in nicely," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "It was a productive day. Scott Van Slyke had good at-bats, Culberson's defense has been consistent all spring and he's fun to watch. Rico Noel was good. Joc, again, played good center field."

Meanwhile, the Rockies received nowhere near that type of pitching from their starter, righty Jordan Lyles.
Unable to command his fastball, Lyles went 2 1/3 innings and yielded four runs on five hits, including Van Slyke's third spring homer -- a 422-foot shot to left field to open the second inning. The Dodgers would score twice more in a frame that was extended when Lyles walked Kershaw on four pitches with two out. Andre Ethier tripled to open the third, and Lyles was done a batter later.
"I guess that's the good thing about Spring Training -- you have these types of outings and it's a lot easier to get over it, find the positive and move on," Lyles said. "I know what was wrong. I should have corrected it while I was out there during the [second] inning or going back out there for the third inning. I'm just falling off, not staying toward home plate."
Justin Miller replaced Lyles and coughed up Cody Bellinger's two-run double for a 6-0 deficit.

A late surge from the Rockies -- three runs in the eighth and a solo homer from Tony Wolters in the ninth -- could not close the gap.

Up next for Dodgers: As of midday Sunday, the Dodgers hadn't announced a starting pitcher for Monday. Scott Kazmir will instead pitch in a "B" game, with Yasmani Grandal catching, to work on certain pitches. Monday is Mike Bolsinger's regular day to pitch. Grandal will be seeing his first game action in almost a week after developing sore forearms from extra batting practice. Third baseman Justin Turner is expected to see his first Cactus League action of the Spring in the game against Milwaukee.
Up next for Rockies: Righty Tyler Chatwood, who missed last year while recovering from Tommy John surgery, has had two up-and-down, two-inning performances -- giving up a run in each, with a total of three strikeouts, three hits and three walks. He'll try to catch more traction Monday, when the faces the Mariners at Peoria, Ariz., at 2:05 p.m. MT.
