Cubs activate outfielder Soler; right-hander Nathan designated for assignment

The Chicago Cubs today activated outfielder Jorge Soler off of the 15-day disabled list. Right-handed pitcher Joe Nathan has been designated for assignment.

OAKLAND -- The Chicago Cubs today activated outfielder Jorge Soler off of the 15-day disabled list. Right-handed pitcher Joe Nathan has been designated for assignment.
                 
Soler will start at designated hitter tonight for the Cubs tonight as they begin their three-game series at Oakland.
The 24-year-old Soler is batting .223 (29-for-130) with five doubles, five home runs and 13 RBI in 50 games for the Cubs this season. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 7 with a strained left hamstring. Soler combined to play 11 rehab games with Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa as part of his return, batting .162 (6-for-37) between the two stops.
Nathan, 41, went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (2.0 IP) in three relief outings with the Cubs.
