Dominant Arrieta wins NL Pitcher of Month

May 2nd, 2016

The awards keep coming for Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta.
The 2015 National League Cy Young Award winner has carried his brilliance into this season, and on Monday, he was named the NL Pitcher of the Month.
Arrieta opened the season by going 5-0 with a 1.00 ERA in five April starts, while authoring the season's first no-hitter, on April 21 against the Reds.

"I just want to continue to move forward and pitch the way I have and continue to pile up good outings for the team and stack up wins," Arrieta said. "That's the intention, and I think I'll be able to do a good job moving forward."
Arrieta leads the NL in wins and ranks second to teammate Jason Hammel in ERA and second behind Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw in WHIP.
"He's been good. I'm really happy for him. He deserves it, he earned it," manager Joe Maddon said. "It's good for him and it's good for the organization."
