Pollock strains groin; Herrmann breaks hand

MLB.com

PHOENIX -- D-backs center fielder A.J. Pollock and catcher/outfielder Chris Herrmann both exited Friday's 7-6 loss to the Giants with injuries. Pollock suffered a strained left groin and Herrmann broke two bones in his left hand, ending his season.

Pollock was removed at the start of the second inning, suffering the injury when rounding first base in the bottom of the first. He flied out to center for the final out of the inning and as he rounded the bag, he hopped on his right foot, not letting his left leg touch the ground and wincing in pain. He was looked at by an athletic trainer before retreating to the dugout and coming out of the game.

D-backs manager Chip Hale did not have any update on Pollock's injury after the game. Pollock was not available for comment.

Pollock has played in just 12 games after missing most of the season with a fractured right elbow he suffered in an exhibition game April 1. He is batting .244 (10-for-41) with two homers and four RBIs.

Herrmann suffered his injury on a steal in the bottom of the seventh after drawing a pinch-hit, one-out walk. He was just activated from the disabled list Tuesday after a lingering hamstring injury kept him sidelined since mid-July.

"He landed, and the hand was underneath him," Hale said. "[He's out the] rest of the season, I'm sure."
