SAN DIEGO -- D-backs left-hander Patrick Corbin will be featured Saturday on "Play Ball," a new weekly show on MLB Network that is geared toward kids.
Corbin, who taped the episode with host Harold Reynolds when the team was in New York last week, will discuss his childhood and unique path to the big leagues. The show begins at 7 a.m. MST. and will re-air at 10 a.m. MST.
Growing up in Syracuse, N.Y., basketball was Corbin's first love.
"My father built a basketball court in our backyard," Corbin said. "It was a wooden deck court with two hoops on each side. It was great because about five or six of my friends lived within a couple houses, so we'd always do something after school. I grew up in New York, [I'm] from Syracuse, so Carmelo Anthony, he was one of my favorite guys [to watch]."
Like a lot of successful athletes, Corbin did not specialize in one sport when he was growing up.
"Baseball was tough just because of the weather," he said. "Growing up, I played multiple sports and I think it really helped with me to get to where I am today, just repeating my delivery and being able to do multiple things out there on the mound. I credit that to playing everything I could growing up."
