"I think Goldy is one of the most complete players that I have ever been around," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. "I've seen a lot of really talented players, and Goldy is right up there with some of the elite ones that I've played with, coached and have just been around in the same type of environment.
"He deserves the consideration. I know that it's a tough position, there are some very capable first basemen in the National League. But he's one of the best players in the league hands down."
Goldschmidt, who helped Team USA win the World Baseball Classic this spring, has been among the National League leaders in batting average and RBIs all season, while also playing stellar defense at first base.
The D-backs entered Monday with the third-most wins in the Majors behind only the Astros and Dodgers, but only have Goldschmidt, third baseman Jake Lamb and shortstop Chris Owings among the top five in the voting at their respective positions.
Lamb is fifth behind Kris Bryant, Nolan Arenado, Justin Turner and Anthony Rendon while Owings is also fifth behind Zack Cozart, Corey Seager, Addison Russell and Trea Turner.
Lovullo would like to see fans make a final week push for his players.
"We haven't done it by blind luck," Lovullo said of the team's record. "These players have gone out and performed. We've had some pitchers pitch. I think we have a couple pitchers who deserve consideration. The best teams tend to have the best players, and our record seems to indicate that we have some very talented players. We have a number of players who have led us to this record and they deserve consideration."
