D-backs option Bracho, add Burgos to 'pen

April 23rd, 2016

PHOENIX -- The D-backs believe right-handed pitcher Silvino Bracho is better than his numbers suggest.
That's part of the reason Bracho was optioned to Triple-A Reno and the club recalled right-handed pitcher Enrique Burgos from Reno. The D-backs could also use the depth.
"Burgos has pitched well down there, but I think more than the fresh arm, I think Bracho needs to go back down and pitch his way back up here," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "I think he has not been the same guy we saw at the end of last year. We just felt like this was the best move for his career."
Bracho, who was optioned for the second time this season, gave up two runs on three hits in one-third of an inning against the Pirates on Friday night. Overall, he's allowed three runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings for the D-backs this season.

Last season, Bracho allowed two runs on nine hits in 12 1/3 innings for the D-backs.
"You can say what you want, but his pitches were not located well and obviously, they were hit last night," Hale said of Bracho. "Is that confidence? I don't think his stuff is any different. He has the same stuff, so he just needs to locate it better.
"He's a great guy and works extremely hard. He's a great teammate. He just needs to get that swagger back. I just don't see it in his eyes. He knows it, and was great about the discussion we had. I'm sure we'll see him later in the year, and he'll help us win games."
As for Burgos, he went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in five innings in five games with the Aces this season. He posted a 2-2 record with a 4.67 ERA and two saves in 30 games over three stints with the D-backs last season.
