O'Day first injured hamstring May 24 in Houston

Orioles reliever was placed on DL Friday after tweaking it again covering first

BALTIMORE -- Orioles reliever Darren O'Day, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a strained right hamstring, said he first injured his hamstring while warming up for a game in Houston on May 24. It didn't prevent him from pitching in the contest, though, and he tossed a scoreless frame in the 3-2 loss.
The All-Star received treatment in the ensuing days, and he pitched twice at Cleveland without any issues. By the time he was called on against Boston on Wednesday, he said he felt comfortable trotting at his normal speed from the bullpen to the mound.
The issue came when he had to hurry off the mound to cover first base in that contest against Boston.
"It popped again," O'Day said.
Manager Buck Showalter said he noticed it was bothering O'Day when he went out to pull him with two down in the eighth inning.
"I could tell by his body language," Showalter said. "He didn't fight me at all about bringing Zach [Britton] in there. Usually he has that look of disgust at himself and at me."
This isn't the first time O'Day has dealt with a hamstring injury. He said he suffered a similar injury to his left hamstring when was in Class A ball.
"I came back relatively quick [then], so we'll see," O'Day said. "No one will put a time limit on it. I don't have to get surgery, so that's nice."
Showalter said he thinks O'Day "will be close" to the 15-day minimum. He's eligible to return June 18.
