ST. PETERSBURG -- With no real set lineup, it's no surprise that manager Dave Roberts expects to shuffle a handful of players in and out of the designated hitter spot during the club's five-game trip against Interleague opponents Tampa Bay and Toronto.
Enrique Hernandez got the call on Tuesday night batting leadoff, but Roberts said third baseman Justin Turner will have a "DH day tomorrow [Wednesday]" and Adrian Gonzalez on Sunday against the Blue Jays.
Coming off a 1-6 homestand, in which the Dodgers scored 12 runs total, Roberts welcomes the offensive rule change.
"It'll be good to get an extra bat in there," Roberts said.
Roberts won't start former Rays All-Star Carl Crawford in either game against Tampa Bay's left-handed starting pitchers (Matt Moore and Drew Smyly).
Roberts said he at least wants to give Crawford pinch-hitting appearances "to get him in front of the fans, and to help us win a game." Roberts said Crawford will start in Toronto and Corey Seager, replaced by right-handed-hitting Charlie Culberson in Tuesday night's lineup, will start at shortstop on Wednesday night.
Tropicana Field not only holds a special place for Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman (who ran the Rays), but it also was where Roberts made his Major League debut, Aug. 7, 1999, for Cleveland, a game in which Wade Boggs collected his 3,000th hit.
