PHOENIX -- The D-backs placed outfielder David Peralta on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday, retroactive to May 9, and selected the contract of outfielder Michael Bourn from Double-A Mobile. Right-hander Cody Hall was designated for assignment to make room for Bourn on the 40-man roster.
"We signed [Bourn] and he was doing a good job at Mobile, getting his at-bats," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "He's a center fielder. This gives us the ability to bring [Chris Owings] to play some infield. It also gives us somebody other than a guy like [backup catcher] Chris Herrmann, [who started in center on Sunday and caught Saturday night], to spell [Owings] in center."

Peralta, 28, who missed the past six games with a right wrist injury, had been hit in the right forearm twice by the Giants in April. The outfielder also injured the same wrist at the end of last season.

He's not sure what has caused the pain and weakness in his wrist.
"It is what it is," Peralta said. "We made the decision to go on the DL in order to give it more time to get better. It's feeling better but it's not ready to go 100 percent, and I want to be back 100 percent to help the team and do well."
The D-backs' cleanup hitter is hitting .260 with seven doubles, three triples, three homers and 12 RBIs in 33 games this season. He expects to be activated from the DL when he becomes eligible on May 23.
The D-backs are taking a more cautious approach.
"We are not going to bring him back until he feels that he's close to 100 percent. I don't expect anything at this point," Hale said. "The way people heal is different. We talked to him and he didn't feel comfortable to swing yet, so at this point it was the best thing to do for him. We are hoping it's only eight more days, but you just never know in this game."
