Diaz to replace teammate Carpenter on National League All-Star roster

National League All-Star manager Terry Collins of the New York Mets announced today his selection of St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Aledmys Diaz to the NL All-Star roster as a replacement for his teammate, infielder Matt Carpenter.

National League All-Star manager Terry Collins of the New York Mets announced today his selection of St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Aledmys Diaz to the NL All-Star roster as a replacement for his teammate, infielder Matt Carpenter.
Diaz, a rookie, is batting .319 with 12 home runs, 44 RBI, 22 doubles, 54 runs scored, a .382 on-base percentage and a .534 slugging percentage this season. The 25-year-old native of Cuba ranks among NL leaders in batting average (6th), runs scored (7th) and doubles (6th).
Carpenter, who was named to his third All-Star team, left last night's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to injury. The versatile 30-year-old is batting .298 on the season with 14 homers, 53 RBI, 25 doubles, an NL-best .420 OBP and a .568 slugging percentage. The Cardinals' mainstay is invited to San Diego with full All-Star honors.
