Dodgers sign Coleman, place McCarthy on 60-day DL

February 19th, 2016

PHOENIX -- The Dodgers announced the signing of right-handed reliever Louis Coleman on Friday. To make room on the 40-man roster, injured pitcher Brandon McCarthy was placed on the 60-day disabled list.
McCarthy continues his recovery from last year's Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery. The club believes he will return around midseason this year, the second of a four-year, $48 million contract.
Coleman, who will turn 30 in April, was released earlier this month by Kansas City. He made four appearances in a September callup last year after pitching most of the previous three seasons in the Major Leagues. He is 6-4 with a 3.20 ERA in 152 career games, with a ratio of 9.4 strikeouts per nine innings. He also averages four walks per nine innings.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder was a fifth-round pick in the 2009 Draft out of LSU.
