Dodgers being cautious with Ryu in camp

Starter takes extra time between bullpen sessions

February 21st, 2016

PHOENIX -- Further evidence of the kid-glove treatment for Hyun-Jin Ryu coming off shoulder surgery is that the time he takes between spring bullpen sessions, at least initially, is twice as long as other Dodgers pitchers.
Ryu threw a bullpen session Thursday, played long toss Saturday and is tentatively scheduled to throw another bullpen session Monday, when Clayton Kershaw and about a dozen pitchers will be throwing their second bullpen session in three days.
Although Ryu has frequently said he hopes to be ready to start the season on the active roster, the club has given increasing signs that's unlikely, with Alex Wood the presumptive fifth starter behind Kershaw, Scott Kazmir, Kenta Maeda and Brett Anderson.

Maeda had his first bullpen session, documented by about three dozen members of Japanese media. In the last group throwing Sunday were the organization's top two pitching prospects, Julio Urias and Jose DeLeon.
Josh Ravin missed his second day with the flu, Brooks Brown is still out with shoulder discomfort and Caleb Dirks was sidelined with back stiffness.
