Volquez displays impressive stuff with 10 K's

KANSAS CITY -- Right-hander Edinson Volquez accomplished something he never had in his short stint with the Royals.
Volquez, in his second year with the club, struck out 10 batters in a game, as the Royals eventually rallied for a 4-3 walk-off win in 10 innings over the Twins on Sunday.
"I thought that was the best stuff I've seen Eddie have since we've had him," manager Ned Yost said.
When a reporter informed Volquez of Yost's remarks, Volquez laughed and said, "Why? Because I struck out 10 guys?
"Nah, seriously, like I told you guys last year, when I strike out a lot of guys, it's really not good. I need ground balls."
Volquez, who went 5 2/3 innings, did concede his stuff on Sunday was pretty good.
"I had a really good changeup," Volquez said. "I was able to use that a lot and keep them off-balance."
Volquez had thrown 11 straight scoreless innings this season until the Twins nicked him for two runs in the sixth. He gave up eight hits altogether, but didn't walk anyone.
"I did feel pretty good out there," Volquez said. "I wish I could have gotten through that sixth, but I started missing my spots a little. But it was good we got the win."
