MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins shortstop Eduardo Escobar exited after the second inning of Saturday afternoon's 17-5 win over the Rangers with a left hamstring strain suffered while sliding into home in the first inning. The team says he is considered day to day.
After the game, Twins manager Paul Molitor told reporters Escobar would be reevaluated on Sunday.
With the bases loaded and two out in the first, catcher Juan Centeno drilled a single into center field. After Brian Dozier scored from third, Escobar had to slide into home coming from second base to beat the throw home from center fielder Ian Desmond. He grabbed at his left leg while on the ground and had to be helped off the field by a trainer.
Although Escobar initially stayed in the game at shortstop in the second inning, he noticeably limped out of the batter's box on a deep flyout that ended the frame. He was replaced at shortstop by Danny Santana, who moved in from left field, where Robbie Grossman entered the game and took over.
Escobar was 0-for-2 in the game, including an RBI fielder's choice as part of a four-run first inning against Rangers starter Chi Chi Gonzalez.
Escobar is hitting .258 with two home runs and 20 RBIs.
