BOSTON -- As it turns out, Sunday was not the final rehab start for Red Sox left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez.
"He's going to start one more time at a minimum for [Triple-A] Pawtucket, and that will be on Friday," said Red Sox manager John Farrell after Monday's 14-7 win over the Athletics.
Prior to meeting with Rodriguez on Monday, Farrell had indicated there was at least a chance his next start would come for Boston.
But the lefty is still regaining his feel for pitching after coming back from a patella subluxation in his right knee that occurred on Feb. 27. Rodriguez is 0-2 with a 4.70 ERA in three starts for Pawtucket.
"Yeah, we feel like he's making steady progress," said Farrell. "Feel like he's still building arm strength, and not to say that there's a specific number in terms of velocity that we need to see, but he's still building. [We] want to continue that progression before he gets back to us."
Rodriguez sounded totally on board with the plan.
"It's good to throw another one, to finish with everything and fix all the pitches, my mechanics and everything," said Rodriguez. "That's good. I'll take it. It feels good now, but I want to throw another one to feel 100 percent ready."
The Red Sox could keep Rodriguez on rehab until May 27 if they needed to, but that's highly unlikely.
