Andrus gets boost in Final Vote candidacy

July 3rd, 2017

ARLINGTON -- To help shortstop reach his third All-Star Game, the Rangers are stepping up their efforts to help him get there on and off the field.
Andrus is one of five American League players vying for the Esurance MLB All-Star Game Final Vote. To ensure he receives as many votes as possible to attend the 88th All-Star Game presented by Mastercard, the Rangers are running a handful of promotions to support his candidacy.
The Rangers held a "Power Hour" during Monday's game against the Red Sox from 6-7 p.m. CT, where all fans were encouraged to vote for Andrus as many times as possible. There will also be a "Vote for Elvis" session held during the fourth inning, where fans will be encouraged to vote for Andrus.

Fans can also show their support for Andrus by tweeting #ElectElvis, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, any tweet that includes #ElectElvis will count toward his vote total.
The club is also partnering with the Washington Nationals and NL Final Vote candidate (#VoteRendon and text to N3) in the 2017 All-Star Game Final Vote effort.
Andrus, who was selected as the Rangers' Player of the Month in May and June, entered Monday's game batting .302 with 11 homers and 50 RBIs in 80 games. He is among the AL leaders in stolen bases (second, 20), multihit games (third, 30), hits (fourth, 97), and average (14th). Andrus was selected as a reserve on AL All-Star teams in 2010 and '12.

Andrus said he'd be honored to be voted in and join Rangers teammate -- the only other member of the club to be named an All-Star -- and that with the birth of his child soon, it'd be another "gift" he'd be ecstatic to receive.
"I leave everything on the field," Andrus said. "And like I said, if I go, it'd be amazing. I got my kid coming soon, so that'd be two amazing gifts."
Rangers players and coaches are wearing special "#VoteForElvis" T-shirts during batting practice to spread the word as well.
