Triple-A El Paso nears division title with win over Salt Lake

Starting pitchers Eric Lauer and Kyle Lloyd turned in scoreless performances Sunday in the Padres' farm system.
The left-handed Lauer, the Padres' third pick in the 2016 Draft (25th overall) allowed two hits and a walk with three strikeouts over five innings with Class A Short-Season Tri-City to record his first professional win. Lauer has a 1.29 earned run average in six starts with the Dust Devils after his longest professional outing.
Lloyd allowed seven hits and a walk with a strikeout over six scoreless innings for Double-A San Antonio to lower his ERA to 3.48.
Meanwhile, right-hander Carlos Pimentel allowed one run on three hits and four walks with a season-high nine strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings to lead Triple-A El Paso to a 2-1 won over Salt Lake in the west-Texas city. The win improved El Paso to 68-60 and reduced the Chihuahuas' magic number to 10 to win the Pacific Coast League's Pacific Southern title.
Right-hander Jason Jester (2-2, 6.30) followed Pimentel and allowed a hit with a strikeout in 1 2/3 scoreless innings to get the win. Left-hander (1.14) allowed a hit in two-thirds of a scoreless inning. Right-hander Eric Yardley (3.43) pitched a perfect inning to get his first save.
Designated hitter (.344) and left fielder Nick Torres (.314) were each 1-for-3 with a RBI. Right fielder Hunter Renfroe (.312) was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Shortstop (.253) was 0-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.

Double-A San Antonio (29-27, 51-75): Northwest Arkansas 2, Missions 0. RHP T.J. Weir (2-4, 6.29 ERA) followed Lloyd and gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits with a strikeout in two innings to suffer the loss. 3B Josh VanMeter (.169) and LF Luis Tejada (.237) were each 1-for-3 with a steal.
Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore (31-26, 63-64): Lancaster 8, Storm 5. CF Michael Gettys (.306) was 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs. SS Ruddy Giron (.500) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. RF Franmil Reyes (.265) was 2-for-4 with a double. 1B (.280) had a double in four at-bats with two RBIs. 2B Luis Urias (.324) was 1-for-2 with three walks and a run scored. Starting RHP (4.17 ERA) allowed two runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. RHP Colby Blueberg (3.17) allowed a run on a hit and three walks with a strikeout in one-third inning. RHP Mark Zimmerman (3.48) allowed a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in two scoreless innings. RHP Zech Lemond (6-5. 6.66 ERA) allowed four runs on three hits and a walk in one-third inning to take the loss. RHP Ben Paullus (5.27) allowed an unearned run on a hit and two walks with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.
Class A Fort Wayne (21-35, 57-69): Lake County 6, Tin Caps 1. Starting RHP (0-3, 5.79 ERA) allowed four runs on six hits with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. RHP Blake Rogers (5.17) allowed two runs on five hits and a walk in 4 1/3 innings. RHP Aaron Cressley (3.07) allowed a hit and a walk with five strikeouts in three scoreless innings. LF Kodie Tidwell (.248) and RF Alan Garcia (.228) were each 2-for-4. DH Tyler Selesky (.321) was 1-for-2 with two walks. 1B Brad Zunica (.246) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

RHP Adrian DeHorta (4.19) followed Lauer and gave up two runs on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts in three innings.
