Longoria goes to bat for animal shelter

"It's all stuff that I collected from guys around the league," said Evan Longoria.

BOSTON -- is passionate about a cause, so he wants to call attention to the online auction to benefit Pet Pal Animal Shelter in St. Petersburg.
"The auction's going well so far," Longoria said. "It just launched yesterday. It's all stuff that I collected from guys around the league. A lot of them are my favorite players."
Longoria pointed out that he'd wanted the items to be auctioned individually, but they ended up being auctioned in packages.
"So it's more beneficial for the people bidding," said Longoria, citing the package that features autographed cleats, bat and batting gloves as an example.
"It's the one thing that myself and Jaime, my wife, have been involved in for the past five years," Longoria said. "Outside of [the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute] and my involvement with the Rays on that, this is our own thing, with Pet Pal Animal Shelter.
"We love the fact that they're local and a non-profit and also a no-kill shelter. For those of us who have dogs, and cats, I don't have cats, I have two dogs, it's a great cause. And all of it goes back to the shelter."
