Former A's Minor Leaguer Sean Murphy died unexpectedly Monday in Arizona. He was 27.
"The A's are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Sean Murphy," A's executive vice president of baseball operations Billy Beane said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."

Murphy, a right-hander, was selected by the A's in the 33rd round of the 2010 Draft. He pitched five seasons in the A's farm system from 2010-14, going 32-32 with a 4.26 ERA in 105 games (81 starts). Murphy reached Triple-A Sacramento in '14 before sitting out last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in September 2014.
"Sad. It makes you stop and really think. It's one thing if it's someone you don't know. This is someone that's been part of our family and our organization, someone I've had experience with," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "It bites you. You really feel for his family, his friends. Our hearts go out."
