Speedy Gordon hits into first 3-6-3 double play

Marlins second baseman has grounded into only 15 DPs in 481 games

April 13th, 2016

NEW YORK -- Chalk up another first for Dee Gordon. But in this case, it's a distinction the Marlins' All-Star second baseman would rather forget.
With one out in the third inning of Wednesday afternoon's 2-1 loss to the Mets at Citi Field, Gordon bounced into a 3-6-3 double play. According to BaseballSavant.com, it's the first time the speedster has bounced into that combination of a double play.
It's rare, period, for Gordon to ground into a double play. Wednesday was his 481st game, and he's only bounced in 15.
Miguel Rojas singled to lead off the third, then after Adam Conley was unsuccessful in attempting to bunt him over, Gordon stepped in against Mets righty Logan Verrett.

According to Statcast™, Gordon's grounder to Wilmer Flores at first base had an exit velocity of 88 mph. Flores went to shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera for the lead out, and the return throw came back to Flores to end the inning.
It's the second straight day Gordon has achieved a dubious first. In Tuesday's 2-1 win, Gordon struck out four times for the first time.
