Cervelli, Dickerson making push in early ASG voting

PHOENIX -- Francisco Cervelli and Corey Dickerson have been the Pirates' most valuable players this season. Their production has put them among the voting leaders in the National League's first All-Star Game balloting update, which was released on Monday.

Cervelli ranks fourth among NL catchers, while Dickerson has received the 12th-most votes among NL outfielders. Cervelli and Dickerson are the only Pirates among the NL's leading vote-getters, and they'll need quite a bit of help to overtake the leaders at their respective positions.

VOTE NOW: 2018 Camping World MLB All-Star Ballot

Cervelli (168,832 votes), who is seeking his first All-Star nod, stands behind the Giants' Buster Posey (281,331), the Cubs' Willson Contreras (259,427) and the Braves' Kurt Suzuki (223,108) but ahead of the Cardinals' Yadier Molina (152,336). Dickerson has received 150,239 votes, trailing the top three of Bryce Harper (498,189), Nick Markakis (494,206) and Matt Kemp (351,780).

Currently day-to-day with a bruised jaw, Cervelli entered Monday's action leading the Pirates in home runs, RBIs, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. In 49 games, he has posted a .266/.387/.519 slash line, a career-high nine home runs and 35 RBIs. According to Fangraphs, he leads all NL catchers (minimum 100 plate appearances) in Wins Above Replacement, wOBA and wRC+ and is tied for first in RBIs alongside Yasmani Grandal.

Dickerson leads the Pirates in average (.319), hits (79) and Defensive Runs Saved (eight) while ranking second, behind Cervelli, in adjusted OPS+ (124). Dickerson, a 2017 American League All-Star, has been everything the Bucs hoped for when they acquired him from the Rays in February. He is tied for fourth in the Majors with six Outs Above Average, according to Statcast™.
